a welcome nomination
IOD Director of the Year awards
We’re proud to announce that our Commercial Director, Geoff, has been shortlisted for the Institute of Directors ‘Director of the Year’ award.
Since 1903, the Institute of Directors has been supporting businesses and professional leaders to encourage entrepreneurial activity and responsible business practices. Each year they hold awards to recognise those companies and individuals who have had success in their fields.
A brief history
It sounds a little biased for us to comment on why Geoff has been shortlisted for the award. But his impressive career speaks for itself.
After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with international firm Ernst and Young, Geoff was one of the founders of Owens Thomas & Co, an accountancy firm, which is now part of the Cardiff based firm, KTS Owens Thomas. He then went on to establish FD Systems and was Managing Director of the multi award-winning Sage software reseller. Geoff was responsible for growing the business to a £15m turnover before selling it to AIM listed company, K3 in 2011.
Ever the entrepreneur, Geoff then joined forces with our MD, Gareth Rees Jones in 2012 to create Uprise Marketing. And the rest, as they say, is history! Geoff has been instrumental in growing our company from a two person start-up only 4 years ago to the successful business that it is today.
Geoff led us through our recent acquisition of web development and technology company, VSI-thinking, which has created a full service digital, marketing and technology company with a combined annual turnover of £1.2million and a team of 20 people. Our client list includes Thomas Cook, Welsh Rugby Union, Hugh James Solicitors, Paramount Interiors, Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham Football Club, to name just a few.
Geoff’s focus over the coming years is firmly fixed on growing upriseVSI to become one of the UK’s leading digital, marketing and technology companies. Discussing our future goals, Geoff commented “I believe that upriseVSI is well placed for more success. Future growth is expected to come from organic marketing activities. The business has numerous differentiators that give it a competitive advantage when compared to its digital marketing competitors.”
We’re proud that Geoff’s achievements are being recognised by the IOD and we can’t wait to be there at the SSE SWALEC Stadium on Friday 20th May to support him.
