UpriseVSI new starters: Back (L-r): Rob Greyling, Phil Read; Front (l-r): Nick Ivens, Gemma Heyler, Llewelyn Taylor

New Year, New Talent at UpriseVSI

2020 is already full steam ahead, with ongoing projects soon to go live and a raft of amazing new clients and developments ready to kick-off. All of which has meant a continuing need to increase the talent working within our various teams.

We introduced our new Chief Technology Officer, Rob Greyling, at the end of last year. Now it’s time to meet the rest of the guys who’ll be contributing their skills and knowhow to the business as we move forward.

Nick Ivens – Developer

A new addition to the development team, Nick is already immersed in a range of exciting new and ongoing web and booking system projects as a Back-End C# Developer.

Prior to joining the UpriseVSI ranks, Nick spent 3 years working as a .NET Developer for the UK’s largest provider of ERP solutions to the social housing sector, a role he took following graduation from the University of Wales with a First-Class Honours degree in Computing.

When not at work Nick can invariably be found playing his guitar, maintaining his aquarium or indulging in some ‘third-rate horror movie’ and eating something delicious and entirely unhealthy.

Gemma Heyler – Senior UX & UI Designer

A keen skateboarder and jogger, it’s no surprise that Gemma hit the ground running upon joining us. Within days she was taking the lead on new high-profile web and booking system projects for some well-known brands.

With a First-Class honours degree in Arts Graphic Communication and an expertise in User Experience (UX) best practice, Gemma brings considerable talent and experience to the team, thanks to her past work as a digital, visual and product designer with Coup Media, Karolo, Sonovate and, most recently, Box UK.

Phil Read – Senior Test Engineer

The majority of Phil’s career, to date, has been within the financial services industry, working variously for FirstPlus, Barclays and 118118Money.

Starting out in IT Support, Phil has latterly specialised in Quality Assurance Testing, a technical and critical role in any new technology development project; meaning an ongoing need to stay up-to-date on software development, coding best practices and emerging technologies.

As a Senior Test Automation engineer Phil designs high value automation scripts to test new and existing features, providing fast feedback on their quality.

Another keen runner in the UpriseVSI midst, when not spending time with his 2 daughters you can often find Phil running up and down a mountain or 2, or exploring the Wales Coastal Path.

Llewelyn Taylor – Graduate Placement Developer

Currently studying for a degree in Computer Science, Llewelyn has joined the UpriseVSI team for an industry placement year.

Taking his place within the development team, Llewelyn is working as a back-end developer with a responsibility for ensuring that sites and applications are functioning as they are supposed to.

It’s a role that not only requires skill and attention to detail, but also a degree of patience; something that Llewelyn displays in abundance as a passionate supporter of Cardiff City FC.

It’s an exciting and expansive time for UpriseVSI and our sister booking brand, thinkBooker, with some amazing new projects kicking off over the coming weeks and months. Which is why it’s so important to bolster the team with new talent, experience and expertise.
