On Course to Deliver New Website for Crail Golfing Society
We’re excited to announce that we’ve been appointed to design and develop a new website for one of golf’s oldest institutions, the Crail Golfing Society.
Founded in 1786, the Crail Golfing Society has a heritage stretching back to the beginnings of the sport.
With the Royal & Ancient Golf Club in St. Andrews, and the links of Kingsbarns and Carnoustie just a drive, three wood and a wedge away, Crail sits within the heart of golf’s spiritual home, occupying a stretch of land on the East Fife coastline in Scotland that offers jaw-dropping views out across the North Sea.
As well as being the home venue for more than a thousand local and international members, the club is also a major destination for golfing pilgrims.
Offering two courses (the historic Balcomie Links and the championship challenge of the Craighead Links), beautiful clubhouse, stunning views, and a warm welcome, Crail is a hugely popular destination for golf lovers around the world, who visit the region in their thousands each year to sample the sport at its place of origin.
While the Society may be well into its third-century, the members and management understand the vital role the digital world plays in retaining membership engagement and encouraging new visitors.
Central to this has been the need to improve online services, such as tee time booking and member services, while re-vamping the look, feel and functionality of the website.
The new website will have a particular set of objectives, namely:
- To help establish Crail’s position as one of the world’s leading and most historic links in golf
- To better reflect and communicate the club’s heritage, culture and personality in an online environment
- To improve the online user experience (UX) for members and visitors
- Increase member engagement and encourage greater use of the club, the course and its facilities
Beyond the Generic
One of the key objectives of the new site is to create an online persona distinctly representative of the Crail Golfing Society.
With experience in creating websites for sports brands such as Cardiff Blues, Glamorgan County Cricket Club and Jacksonville Jaguars (UK) that uniquely reflected their brand and their commitment to engaging with their key stakeholders (members, fans, sports lovers) while maximising the online user experience was the primary factor in appointing UpriseVSI for the task.
thinkCMS Content Management
The website will be built on the UpriseVSI content management system, thinkCMS.
This was an important factor, as it the capability to showcase the sensational surroundings via news, blogs and social updates that will play a vital role in delivering a dynamic site that can be utilised by members and visitors alike.
