Facebook fights fake news
After receiving a lot of criticism for circulating fake news articles last year, Facebook swore that they would find a way to fight fake news, and it looks like they’ve finally done it. Whenever users share disputed content, the social network will display a red warning sign, which will appear directly beneath the link.
Facebook gives more rewarding posts better visibility
Aside from their tireless battle against fake news, Facebook has also developed a new algorithm that will reward posts that get more Reactions. As all five reactions (Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, and Angry) are weighted equally, posts with more reactions will get better visibility in News Feeds regardless of the type of reaction. This is a great incentive for businesses to really drive engagement of their posts as it will give their content an edge in News Feed rankings.
LinkedIn gets a makeover
No, we’re not talking about the new layout that it got a few months ago. That’s old news. But LinkedIn does have a pretty cool new feature; users can now edit the look of their profile photos using a new tool. With a choice of six filters, users can now easily select the look that they like most. There’s also the option to manually adjust the colour settings, which will be a massive help for those that aren’t blessed with an in-house design team!
Twitter tackles trolling
Twitter has been busy over the last few months. Aside from introducing new features that let users filter out more notifications and content that they don’t want to see, they’ve also started looking at new ways to clamp down on the trolling problem. When Twitter identifies an account that’s been engaging in abusive behaviour, they’ll limit the user’s account so that only followers can see their tweets. It’s not quite the solution that we need, but it’s certainly a step forward.
Twitter’s character limit gets easier to manage
We don’t want to jinx it, but dreams have been coming true in the Twittersphere recently! It’s not uncommon for tears to be shed when you’re one measly character over on Twitter’s 140-character rule, and over the last year or so, the Twitter gods have been making it a bit easier for users. Having already discounted images from the limit, they’ve now removed usernames from the count if you reply to an individual.
They’ve also changed the way that replies display, and it seems to make more sense now. Instead of reading a bunch of usernames at the start of a thread, users will be able to read the conversation more clearly.
