Part of the Venture Marketing Group, the UK Franchise Directory is the home of UK-based franchise opportunities, franchise sector news and much more.

The Brief

As part of the ongoing website design projects for Venture Marketing Group, we were asked to create a new website for the UK Franchise Directory (UKFD). While the original website ranked well for organic search terms and contained a large bank of content, the design hadn’t been changed for some time. Display on mobile devices needed to be improved and navigation was confusing and frustrating for visitors. The new UKFD website needed clearer calls to action an improved user journey and better content editing for back-end users. All design and UX considerations also needed to be based specifically on mobile traffic.


The purpose of the UK Franchise Directory is to offer people a comprehensive database of franchise opportunities.

This meant that visitors should be able to search for an opportunity that was right for them quickly and easily, wherever they were.

Our user experience specialists ensured that every page of the site presented people with a search bar that allowed them to filter results based on the category, investment level and location of franchise opportunities.

The home page also highlights a selection of featured franchisers with a scroll-over animation that encourages click-through and provides more information about the franchise opportunity.


The UK Franchise Directory website also offers visitors a wealth of information and advice on becoming a franchisee.

The home page features the latest articles from the news page of the website as well as drop-down answers to the most frequently asked questions about franchising.

Visitors can find more information on the News and Advice section of the website, which features its own search function that allows readers to filter articles by investment level and franchise type.

As well as accessing a wide selection of case studies, anyone interested in becoming a franchisee can also find out more about the UKFD Franchise Discovery Days.


The UKFD team wanted a website that allowed them to coordinate their digital marketing more effectively and generate more leads for the business.

The site features a sticky contact form at the bottom of internal pages which allows visitors to get in touch with UKFD to request more information.

Visitors to the site can sign up to the UKFD newsletter and also register an account which allows them to be notified with email updates specific to the franchise sector that interests them.


As well as anyone interested in investing their time and money into a franchise opportunity, the UKFD website also targets businesses with franchises looking for potential franchisees.

This franchisee recruitment section of the site was just as important and needed its own page, highlighted with a distinct link in the main navigation bar of the site.

The page features details about advertising franchise opportunities on the UKFD site as well as clear calls to action so that visitors can request more information.


The back-end of the old UKFD website was limited, confusing and outdated.

The admin team at UKFD needed a content management system that would allow them to:

  • Add client profiles
  • Amend and update information
  • Upload news articles and guides
  • Upload imagery
  • Update exhibition information

Since our thinkCMS platform is built using the same responsive website design as the front-end of the site, the team at UKFD can edit the site wherever they are on any device; mobile, tablet or desktop.
